The most instagrammable places in Calhoun County

Downtown Battle Creek

Downtown combines old architecture and big water features.

Start your walk at the fountain by Mill Race Park.

Pro Instagram tip: The top of a parking garage is an easy way to elevate your photos. Check out Battle Creek Parking on West Michigan Avenue, near McCamly Street. If you walk there, you don’t have to pay for the view of Battle Creek’s two tallest buildings, Heritage Tower and the Battle Creek Tower.

Across from the parking garage is Record Box, at 15 Carlyle St. The owners plan to open a brewery, shared work space and event space this fall. But outside, the building’s brickwork makes a classy, urban background for your photos.

After that, follow along the Battle Creek River.

You’re not going to get inside the Hart-Doyle-Inouye Federal Center, but the front of the building that was once part of Dr. Kellogg’s Sanitorium has some stunning pillars.

Another fun (and kind of weird) feature in downtown Battle Creek is a giant portrait of Abe Lincoln made out of pennies. It was a hit a ArtPrize, winning the public vote.

Historic Bridge Park

This park has five bridges that make great setpieces. Whether you want to add a pop of color with the big red bridge:

Or go moody with the tunnel bridge:

Leila Arboretum

The arboretum looks good all year round. There are flowering trees in spring:

Or visit Fantasy Forest in summer:

And it’s the ideal fall setting:

Lakeview Square Mall

Times are tough for malls, but Lakeview Square is trying new things, including a skate park, escape rooms and a very Instagrammable mural by the food court.

Brooks Memorial Fountain

This fountain is the model of Americana in small-town Marshall.

“Human nature is like water. It takes the shape of its container.” -Wallace Stevens 💦 ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Morgan here 💁🏼‍♀️ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Today’s question: Why do you travel? 🤷🏼‍♀️⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I had to do some soul searching on this one 😂 ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I grew up in a small town…correction, it wasn’t big enough to be a town, it was a village. 🏡 ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The people were kind, it was safe it was nice, but ever since I can remember I wanted to see what else was out there 👀 ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ As I got older I made friends from different schools, I worked 2-3 jobs to save up for travels while in high school and in college traveled abroad every break I had. But why?! ✈️ 🤔⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I have my small town to thank for my wanderlust. There was a lot of “sameness” in regards to opinions, professions, entertainment etc. Not that it was bad, again the people were great! I just craved diversity. 🌃 ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ That sense of adventure has helped me make amazing friends, find a husband, and now given me the ability to pass it down to my children. That’s why I travel 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦⁣ ⁣ Just look at the excitement on Jonah’s face, captured while exploring @choosemarshall. To me, that’s what life is all about 💕❤️
