Description
Oakridge Cemetery was established in 1839, making one of the oldest operating cemeteries in Michigan.

One of the more famous residents is Adam Crosswhite. Adam and his family were able to escape slavery at a plantation and settled in Marshall. A posse led by a slavecatcher came to take them back into slavery, and their neighbors were able to hold the men off and arrest them. While the matter went to court, the Crosswhite family went to Canada. Ultimately, this led to the new "Fugitive Slave Act of 1850." After the Civil War, Adam came back to Marshall and is buried in Oakridge.
