Summer is winding down, which means the kids will be back in school and the cooler weather will be upon us. Here are some fun things to do before the summer is over. 1) Have a Picnic in Bridge Park Bridge Park is one of the most unique parks in our area. The park features multiple old bridges that were once in use. They were restored and moved to Bridge Park in Calhoun County. The park is a gorgeous place to have a picnic, take pictures or for having a fun day exploring. Their is a picnic pavilion available for rent or you can bring a blanket and spread out on the lawn.
2) Kayak down the Battle Creek River Did you know you can kayak down the Battle Creek River? Every Thursday, Downtown Battle Creek plays host to 3 kayaking trips per day. The trips are completely FREE and include kayaks and life jackets. The trips are 11am, 12pm, and 1pm and are on first come, first serve basis.
3) Attend the Calhoun County Fair The Calhoun County Fair is the oldest fair in Michigan, going on its' 169th year. This year's fair starts this Sunday, August 12, and goes through August 19. Bring your kids to ride the fair rides, see all of the 4H animals, and enjoy great food.
4) Attend a Vibe@5 Concert The Vibe@5 concerts occur every Friday until the end of August. Bring your lawn chairs and come sit in Friendship Park for great music and good times. On August 11, the act is Erika Scherry (Country/Pop) Backroads Line Dancers. August 18, the act is TYPO & Quentin Booth II.
5) Visit Fantasy Forest Fantasy Forest is a unique park, inside of Leila Arboretum, filled with wood carved sculptures. Each is unique and makes the park almost like a fantasy. There are park benches and a stage where you can eat your lunch and enjoy the summer days.
