When friends and family come to visit, you want to show them a good time. There’s something to do every month in Battle Creek and beyond.
January
Kids ‘N’ Stuff in Albion provides lots of indoor fun for when it’s too cold outside to play. Imagine, create and experiment at this hands-on museum that inspires kids to learn while they have fun.
February
The Rink is open during the cold months, so keep an eye out for open skates. Don’t worry if you don’t have ice skates, you can rent them from the front desk.
March
March means two things – St. Patrick’s Day and basketball. Griffin Grill and Pub is inspired by Irish pubs and has the best food and entertainment for March 17. You can always buy a Guinness at Griffin. Or sit at the bar and watch March Madness on one of the bar TVs, with 34 beers on tap. If friends include the four-legged kind, make a stop at the dog-friendly porch in summer.
April
Leila Arboretum is in full bloom in April. Check out Fragrant Hill, where the cherry blossoms and dogwood trees turn into pink and white clouds of flowers. There are also gardens with flowers that bloom all summer long. Don’t miss the Fantasy Forest, a group of sculptures that have been carved from tree trunks.
May
When it’s finally warm enough to let out the giraffes, Binder Park Zoo opens to the public. Feed giraffes, see lions and bears and red pandas, learn about dinosaurs or soar through the air at the zipline and ropes course.
Marshall Museum of Magic in Marshall also opens up to the public in May. Learn about famous illusionists and study the original book of magic.
June
Plan your visit around Cereal Fest, the second Saturday of June. It’s a colorful festival with free cereal served for everyone.
July
Take your guests out to the ballgame. Battle Jacks start their season in June, right when summer vacation begins for these college-age players.
If you’re looking for fireworks on the Fourth of July, we recommend the Battle Creek Field of Flight, which has two nights of fireworks, including the Fourth of July.
August
Once it gets really hot, it’s time to cool down at Full Blast. This outdoor waterpark has two slides and a playground in the shallows for the younger kids.
September
There may be an ice cream cone outside of Station 66, but their best sweet treat comes in fall: the cider doughnut. This small diner also sells Michigan products.
October
When the leaves turn color, it’s time to visit Historic Bridge Park. Admire the leaves among the old bridges or go for a walk on the Calhoun County Trailway. In the summer, there’s also a kayak launch and picnic tables with grills.
November
If you’re looking for a drink, try 50 Beacon or Handmap Brewing. 50 Beacon is on the top of the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel and in early November will offer a view of the fall leaves in downtown Battle Creek. Handmap Brewing is located down the street, and offers locally brewed beer and cocktails (and pizza) in an intimate pub atmosphere.
December
Cafe Rica offers all of the cozy drinks you need when the weather turns cold. It’s also a popular place to cozy up with friends and family as a place to meet and talk in the spirit of the holidays.
