The leaves are changing colors in Calhoun County and now is the time to enjoy the pyrotechnics.
Popular for a reason
The Calhoun County Trailway goes through three different parks: Historic Bridge Park, Kimball Pines and Ott Biological Preserve. On a fall weekend, you’ll find Historic Bridge Park full of people with their cameras out to catch the colors.
Bridge Park also has a kayak launch, so you can enjoy the fall trees from the river. Get in at Bridge Park and go to Paddlers Grove. For a longer trip, start at Ceresco Green.
Marshall Riverwalk is golden this time of year. It’s a serene walk, with all the fall colors reflected in the waterway.
It’s not just about the colors, but the experience.
Gorsline Road, also known as N Drive North, creates a tree tunnel from Battle Creek to Cornwell’s Turkeyville, for a nice afternoon
drive followed by lunch.
The country roads around there are worth it. Drive from N Drive North to Verona Road, where you’ll find the Bosserd Family Farm and Grever’s Nature Center.
M-66 is also a pretty drive to Athens, and you can stop at Station 66 for doughnuts and cider.
Hidden Gems
Oak Hill Cemetery is beautiful this time of year, with all of the old trees. Look up Tours of Battle Creek in your apps for a self-guided history tour through the cemetery.
Walk along the Linear Park Trail. Start at the beginning on West Jackson Street, off of Stringham Road, out in Urbandale. Or walk along it in downtown Battle Creek, along the Battle Creek River.
