Here’s an itinerary for when having fun is just as important as the golf part, and everyone has a different level of experience. We recommend Binder Park Golf Course and Cedar Creek Golf Club in Battle Creek. Both are welcoming for beginners, while still having enough challenges to keep the more serious golfers interested.
Day one
Head to Binder Park Golf Course. You can play the first 18 in the morning, go to lunch and then play the last nine holes in the afternoon – that’s right, Binder Park has 27 holes altogether.
Moonraker is a good spot for lunch. It isn’t too far from the golf course and you can eat out on the patio overlooking the creek or by the sports bar.
For dinner, head over to FireKeepers Casino and Hotel. There are multiple restaurants, so you can choose anything from chorizo nachos at Dacy’s Sportsbook & Taphouse to smoked chicken and steak from Smoke ‘N Fire.
Since you’re there at FireKeepers, you can’t miss gaming with more than 2,900 slots, 63 table games and a 26-table poker room.
You don’t have to go far to sleep if you spend the night at Quality Inn, which is right next door to FireKeepers. Wind down for the night with a game of pool in the Gator Lounge, which opens at 8 p.m.
Day two
Start the day with brunch at Long Island Cafe. With a comprehensive breakfast menu, you can go classic with biscuits and gravy or go big with the Archipelago – a plate of French toast AND pancakes.
Not too far from Long Island Cafe is Cedar Creek Golf Club. It’s a local favorite. There are four sets of tees on each hole, which makes this course enjoyable for all skill levels. Or for anyone who didn’t get enough sleep from the night before.
Be sure to be on your best for hole number three. It’s a par 5 and the hole is narrow, with the out-of-bounds down the entire right side, so don’t hit a big slice. Carry your shot over two ponds on the way to a small green. Owner’s advice: Five conservative shots will get you par, but as a long hitter, you could risk getting to the green in two shots and it’ll put you ahead of the game.
